A laid-back Malibu beach engagement session | Becky + Jin

Becky and Jin arrived anxious and excited for their engagement session at the beach. Malibu was slightly chilly that day ("winter" in LA, am I right?). As the sun went down, it got even cooler. But these two didn't let it faze them! They even came prepared with a bouquet which helps elevate their formals outfits. Jin wore a well-tailored suit while Becky wore a sleek, blush satin dress. They looked beautiful together!! It’s great when couples take full advantage of the opportunity to get nice and dressed up. Their 2nd outfits were relaxed jeans with white tops. The casualness suited their laid-back personalities.

Over the past year, this has become one of my favorite locations for engagement portraits. It has an awesome variety of both cliff views and beach (both rocky and sandy). Malibu is great because the beaches are all so different. This beach in particular has dark rock formations on the beach rather than the light ones of El Matador. It's a beautiful color palette!

Every location has some drawbacks or challenges to overcome. For this location, one of the best areas is only accessible during low tide. (The alternative is to treacherously climb over some rocks, which I don’t recommend.) My tide calculations were a little wrong and the tide was WAY higher for this shoot than expected. BUT I loved that this pushed me to think a little creatively and get some great shots. I may have gotten myself a new favorite photo "spot" with that rock for them to sit on! Becky and Jin were such troopers for going with whatever I could think of, and we had a blast!

Congrats to these two, I can’t wait for your wedding at Huntington Bay Club this fall!
